Last updated April 22, 2024

Occasionally, image data within MIDRC have been modified from their original form, for example to protect patient privacy. These modified images are labeled as such in the data portal and modifications can concern the image header and/or the image pixel data.

Below is a list of modifications/redactions that have been applied to some of the images:

  • Method ID: 1

    Description:

Using Hyland's NilRead Advanced QC software, images noted to have burnt in pixel data considered to be PHI were opened and the Shutter/Mask tool was used to remove the text. Images were then written to replace the previous version which contain burnt in PHI.

  • Method ID: 2

    Description:

Using MIM Software, a commercial vendor. The MIM Assistant has a workflow configured that uses the MIM published Brain Atlas to automatically contour various brain anatomies from the submitted axial series. These contoured structures are then combined to make one ‘whole brain’ structure. Once the ‘whole brain’ structure is created, all pixels outside the contours are set to a value equal to black and the resultant axial slices are then saved as a new series, where all pixels inside the contour remain unchanged and all pixels outside the ‘whole brain’ contour are black.
